You can bake bread in your slow cooker, here’s how.
Slow Cooker Homemade Bread
This recipe makes a small loaf using a 1.5 litre slow cooker.
250 gr plain flour or strong bread flour
150 ml water
2 gr dried yeast
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. Proof covered with a lid or cling film for at least 2 hours, ideally overnight.
Cut a piece of greaseproof paper and line the slow cooker ceramic pot.
Roll the dough onto a floured surface and shape into a ball. Rest for 30 minutes and turn the slow cooker on high.
Place the dough into the slow cooker and cover the top with a kitchen towel and the lid over it. The cloth will absorb any excess moisture.
It should take between 2 and 2.5 hours to bake. Check if the bread is cooked by inserting a wood skewer in the middle, it should come out clean.
1 hour before the end of the cooking, turn the loaf upside down so the top will get a chance to brown.
Once fully cooked, remove from the slow cooker and let cool. If you keep the bread inside the slow cooker to cool it will absorb too much moisture and become soggy.
