The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Musical – James Seabright Showcase at Wilton’s Music Hall

Wilton's Music Hall Energya Ltd

It was a privilege to see some preview material from Seabright Productions‘ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, a new musical inspired by the poem by J. W. Goethe.

Seabright’s past productions include:

  • Boris: World King
  • Julie Madly Deeply
  • Potted Potter (“All seven Harry Potter books in 70 minutes!”)
  • Shakespeare Untold
  • Showstopper!
  • What Would Spock Do?

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice features:

  • Nolan Frederick
  • Alex Gaumond
  • Cristina Hoey
  • Mark Inscoe
  • Laura Pitt-Pulford
  • Jordan Simon Pollard
  • Grace Rowe

The showcase included some sung pieces and dialogue with narration between selected scenes to provide some context.

Without the use of any props we had to use our imagination to conjure up images of magic, but the stunning voices and convincing performances more than made up for it.

Having seen only a few scenes, I think the show has great potential to be successful – my impression was that The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is possibly more targeted to families, but I can see it can appeal to an adult audience. Depending on costume and set design, the show may combine modernity with tradition. Considering the strong track record from Seabright Productions, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is very likely to be a hit.
