Why are Italian women so beautiful at any age? Sure, genetics and a good Mediterranean diet play a part, but what about the skincare routine of Italian women?
When it comes to my skin, I guess I am fairly lucky: I was born in Italy. Now that I am in my 40s, I am showing less signs of ageing than my contemporaries. I wouldn’t mind looking younger than my age as I grow older, and I wouldn’t mind if I keep people guessing about my age in the future.
I try as much as possible to take good care of my skin, cleansing and moisturising every day. I actually quite enjoy my little personal beauty ritual of massaging moisturiser in the evening, while watching television.
I used two skincare products made in Italy that were sent to me to review. One is a moisturiser and one is an eye serum from the Italian skincare company Marlenha.
Flourish Moisturiser
Flourish from Marlenha is a light, quick-absorbing but long-lasting moisturiser. It has a velvety feel and it has a pleasant delicate scent. I use it every day and it leaves my skin looking dewy and radiant.
Flourish Moisturiser has helped to protect my skin during the winter months and makes a great base for the skin before applying foundation, as it leaves no oily traces after you apply it.
I have been using it morning and evening and found that this routine made a huge difference to the softness and suppleness of my skin. To be honest, just one application a day would do, but I enjoy the routine of massaging my face twice a day. In fact, applying the moisturiser in the morning is enough to keep my skin soft for the entire day.
Key ingredients are: hyaluronic acid, collagen liposomes, jojoba oil, extra virgin olive oil, red algae extract and vitamin E. This combination of ingredients ensures long-term hydration even in the deepest layers of the skin.
Verdict:
- Absorbs quickly so you can use it before applying make up;
- you only need a small quantity and one pot will go a long way;
- it keeps the skin moisturised for several hours
Petal Delicate Eye Serum
I have been using Marlenha’s Petal Delicate Eye Serum as both an eye treatment and a primer. I found that using it on fine lines around the eyes works well, and if you spread it a bit wider to the rest of the face it acts as a good primer before make up too. You only need one drop of product for both eyes, so this serum will last for a long time. As a primer you only need two drops for the whole face.
I have problems with the area under my eyes: it gets quite puffy, so I need a product that will help improve the tone of the delicate skin under the eyes. I massage the area very gently to ensure I boost the lymphatic circulation around the eyes. I also work on the frown lines above the bridge of my nose, to make them less visible.
Key ingredients are: hyaluronic acid, vitamin A and E, borage oil, edelweiss, elastin, rosehip oil, almond oil, wheat germ oil and jojoba oil. These components help to increase the skin’s elasticity while also reducing the appearance of fine lines.
Verdict:
- It helps to smooth out fine lines and puffiness under the eyes;
- it works well as a primer before applying foundation
- it absorbs immediately
“Have You Been on Holiday?”
Since using Marlenha’s products, my friends have commented that I look refreshed and that my skin looks smoother and more radiant. Since I haven’t been on holiday nor had a facial recently, I can honestly say that it must have been my skincare regime that did the trick.
