A great evening of literature and laughs at Clapham Grand for Book Slam featuring Sophia Thakur, Simon Rich, Josie Long and Mark Watson plus the excellent compering from Felicy Ward (who coined the term “emphysema crying” for that typical asthmatic sound you make when you are so upset you can’t even breathe!).
It’s good to see literature taken lightly and seriously at the same time – no egos, just talent.
Sophia’s poetry was intimate and thought-provoking; Simon’s surreal humour was very immediate; Josie’s heartache turned into panto; Mark’s seriously accurate observational skills were tempered by his endearing bumbling.
