Great food and great atmosphere at The Folly, Monument

By Paola Bassanese

Arriving early is key to enjoy your time at The Folly near Monument. It feels refreshingly smug to watch the suited and booted rush past from the window while you enjoy a leisurely meal.

The Britney Spears-style headsets all staff members wear give the impression of efficiency. And efficient they are. Apart from having to order at the bar, the service at the table was impeccable: fast and friendly.

If you pick up one of the paper tabs on the decorative tree in the toilet (yes, really) you can get a 2 for 1 cocktail. And then the barman threw in a third free cocktail for luck, just like that. Quirky touches like this make The Folly memorable, but not as much as the inventive duck club sandwich.

Deliciousness on a plate with 3 layers of hazelnut bread stacked between purple cress, duck and fried egg.

Top marks for stocking Brahma, the Brazilian beer that will always remind me of my legendary trip to Rio de Janeiro in 2005 (Rio 2016: I am coming!).

Top marks for an excellent venue with fabulous decor.
