Nigellissima’s “Meatzza” or “Mizza” Recipe

My version of Nigellissima’s “mizza”

Nigella Lawson in her BBC programme Nigellissima  inspired by Italian cuisine presented an alternative version of pizza.

As a pizza lover, I really liked the idea of a wheat-free recipe for Meatzza, a pizza with a mince meat base aka a “paleo-pizza”!

Please note that the original recipe by Nigella includes breadcrumbs and parmesan.

INGREDIENTS

100 gr minced beef

2 tablespoons chopped tomatoes

half a mozzarella ball

1.5 tablespoons olive oil

1 pinch oregano

1 pinch of salt and pepper

1 egg

4-5 basil leaves (if available)

METHOD

Make the pizza base by mixing the minced beef with the egg, salt and pepper.

To prevent the mizza from sticking I added 1 tablespoon olive oil to an oven-proof pan, added the beef mince mixture in one thin layer then added 2 tablespoons of chopped tomato and the mozzarella chopped into cubes, sprinkling with oregano and a drizzle of olive oil (about half a tablespoon).

Then I cooked it in the oven at 200 degrees for 15 minutes. Decorate with basil leaves. I didn’t have them when I cooked the mizza but they make a great flavour addition.

Serving suggestions: create different toppings with vegetables like artichokes in oil or for a meat feast add cooked ham.
